Still Life With Sponges

New York City-based still-life photographer Akira Kawahata found inspiration for this series in both the natural environment and in man-made objects. “I like to put artifacts and the natural things together, and observe how they coexist, especially their color, line and texture,” Kawahata told PDN via e-mail. “The colored sponges are geometric shapes and have a uniform texture. Their colors are artificial. On the other hand, food materials have an organic shape and texture, and their color are natural.”
