PDN Photo of the Day

Musical Ink

Jon Blacker, in his photography project and book, Musical Ink, portrays black and white infrared portraits of musicians and their tattoos. Blacker used an infrared-converted Nikon D2X camera for these photographs; the infrared light reflects off the subjects’ skin but is absorbed by the tattoo ink, making the tattoos pop out. His subjects range in musical backgrounds from heavy metal to opera; some portraits include rock icons like guitarist Dave Navarro (founding member of Jane’s Addiction and also played with the Red Hot Chili Peppers) and drummer Matt Sorum (known for his years with Guns n’ Roses and then Velvet Revolver), and Slayer’s Kerry King.
