Mark Seliger Captures Faces from Kurt Cobain to Barack Obama

Photographs by iconic American photographer Mark Seliger will be on view at Chase Contemporary in New York through July 4, 2018. The images have been chosen from his retrospective book, Mark Seliger Photographs, published by Abrams in May 2018. The book, which includes an interview by Judd Apatow, showcases his best-known portraiture, as well as never before seen outtakes and select standouts from his landscape and personal work.

Seliger’s career began in 1987 when he started shooting small assignments for Rolling Stone. In 1992 he became their chief photographer and kept the position for 15 years.

Over the course of his 30-year career Seliger has captured some of the most memorable and critically acclaimed images featuring famous and influential faces like Kurt Cobain, Nelson Mandela, Leonardo DiCaprio, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Emma Stone, Angelina Jolie, Bruce Springsteen, David Byrne, Matthew Barney, Jennifer Lawrence, Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, Jerry Seinfeld, Jay-Z, Misty Copeland, Amy Schumer, and Paul McCartney.

His work has appeared in Vanity Fair, ELLE, GQ, Vogue Italia, The New Yorker, Purple, and in museums and galleries worldwide.
