Harry Benson Gets the Picture

Harry Benson made a career being in the right place at the right time—from the Beatle’s Paris hotel room in 1964 to Halston’s bachelor pad townhouse in 1978. A new exhibition on view at Staley-Wise Gallery in New York City until January 28, “Harry Benson: Get the Picture” collects Benson’s images from the 1960s to the 2000s, from his work for LIFE and his coverage of the Civil Rights movements to portraits of icons ranging from Dolly Parton to Amy Winehouse. For his trouble, in 2009 Benson was named Commander of the Order of the British Empire by HRH Queen Elizabeth, among his many honors. Writes the gallery in a statement, his photographs “have found their way into the national consciousness.”
