Kurt Cobain: The Last Session

As a former studio manager for Irving Penn, photographer Jesse Frohman knows a little something about portraiture. Frohman, who’s based in New York City, has worked with countless celebrities, and magazines like Vanity Fair, Vogue and Interview have published his photographs. But one of his more interesting and memorable shoots took place in July 1993, when he was asked to photograph Nirvana for the London Observer. The band was on tour promoting their new album, In Utero, a record that’s sold over 15 million copies worldwide. Lead singer Kurt Cobain passed away less than a year later, making this shoot with Frohman one of the band’s last.

Kurt Cobain: The Last Session (November 2014, Thames & Hudson) includes over one hundred of Frohman’s photographs from that shoot, and commentary from writers Jon Savage and Glenn O’Brien. Join Frohman at the Morrison Hotel Gallery in New York City on Thursday, December 18th for a book signing from 6-9pm.
