Roxanne Lowit’s Fabulous Famous

“Karl Lagerfeld calls Roxanne Lowit ‘fashion’s historian…a witness to the marriage of vanity and fame.’ Whether jet setting to Paris or up until dawn in New York, Lowit reveals the magic and madness beneath the glamour and glitz,” Steven Kasher Gallery said in a statement about their current exhibit “Roxanne Lowit: Be Fabulous.” In addition to the supermodels Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss, Lowit’s famous subjects include photographers Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton; designers John Galliano, Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent; and fashion tastemakers Anna Wintour, Diana Vreeland and Andre Leon Talley. “Roxanne Lowit: Be Fabulous” includes both 40 black-and-white vintage and modern as well as large-scale color photographs. The exhibit runs through January 18. Also on view at Steven Kasher Gallery in New York City is “Danny Fitzgerald and Les Demi Dieux: Brooklyn Boys,” in conjunction with his new book by the same title (Bruno Gmünder, 2013), which includes 35 portraits and male nudes in both black-and-white and color.
