In recent years, we’ve noticed something about the photographers we’ve selected for our annual issue, “PDN’s 30: Our Choice of New and Emerging Photographers to Watch”: No matter what genre they work in or subjects they shoot, they share common concerns and approaches. A new exhibition, curated by PDN’s editors in partnership with the Annenberg Space for Photography, looks at how a generation of photographers who began their careers amid a global recession, endless wars, and a revolution in photo sharing and social media cover a range of subjects, from the personal to the global.

“Emerging” presents images by more than 90 photographers from around the world who have been selected for PDN’s 30 in recent years. In addition to prints, the exhibition includes videos, artist’s books, promotions, ‘zines and a live feed of images posted on social media to illustrate how these enterprising photographers have brought their work to new audiences.

The exhibition will also feature a short documentary—commissioned by the Annenberg Space for Photography and produced by Arclight Productions—profiling nine of the photographers in the exhibition: Corey Arnold, Olivia Bee, Peter DiCampo, Pari Dukovic, JUCO, Dina Litovsky, Diana Markosian, Ilvy Njokiktjien, Katie Orlinsky, Charlie Engman and Marcus Smith.

While the exhibition is on display, the Annenberg Space for Photography Skylight Studios will host presentations and slideshows by exhibiting photographers as part of its Iris Nights lecture series. These events are free and open to the public. The full lineup of speakers is still being scheduled at press time, but it will include some of the thoughtful and articulate photographers who have participated in past PDN’s 30 seminars.
