Unseen London

Aldwych disused Underground Station. Aldwych was always a dead-end and part has been disused since 1917. Still intact, the lines on the eastern platform 2 run to a stop block and the old Strand station name can still be detected on the wall. It is one of London’s most well used locations for TV, and feature films best known Atonement, The Krays and V for Vendetta and theatrical productions have been staged in the station. © Peter Dazeley

The Old Bailey, dead man's walk, a legacy of old Newgate prison, exists under the Old Bailey and this was the route a condemned prisoner would follow from the cell to the gallows. © Peter Dazeley
The bell Big Ben developed a crack and a hole and was silent for about 4 years. The damage was said to have been caused by a hammer that was to heavy for the bell. The damage is still visible and audible in the bell’s sonorous slightly imperfect tone. © Peter Dazeley

Architectural photographer Peter Dazeley was granted access to some of London’s secret and underground locations, from the bell tower of Big Ben to the pump room of Abbey Mill. A collection of 50 of these secret spots are compiled into a new book, Unseen London (Frances Lincoln, 2014).
