Seeking a Sense of Self

Brazilian artist Calé’s series, “Buscadores” (“Seekers“), which questions people’s ideas about their own identity and existence, will be on display through May 30 in the Shipping Containers at the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway in Boston, Massachusetts, as part of the Flash Forward Festival in Boston.

“Seekers is about this constant conflict in our lives, our essence inside and all the noise that comes from outside,” Calé told PDN via email. “It’s not as conceptual as some might think. I’ve had people come talk to me at shows and tell me how far they fell from their own center, and that the images helped them reconnect with this quest. So I’ll certainly stay some time at the park in the next days watching people’s reactions and being available to anyone who wants to talk about this.”

Calé has worked as a professional photographer for the past 17 years, with clients like National GeographicNewsweekVogueGQ, and the New York Times. In the last three years, he’s spent more time working on his personal projects, including this one.
