November 22, 1963: Moments Before and After

The sun shone brightly in Dallas on November 22, 1963.

To coincide with the 50th anniversary year of the assassination of John F. Kennedy, The New York Times has authorized a book commemorating his years in office and the important news events that unfolded during his administration – The Civil Rights Movement, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Vietnam War, the Apollo space program, the construction of the Berlin Wall, as well as moments before and shortly after his assassination. The Kennedy Years: From the Pages of The New York Times (Abrams, 2013) is edited by presidential historian Richard Reeves, who was also the chief political correspondent for the Times from 1968-1971, with a foreword by the paper’s Executive Editor, Jill Abramson. It includes articles by journalists David Halberstam, Russell Baker and James Reston and 150 color and black-and-white photographs.
