Celebrating Female Photojournalists

As part of its 125th anniversary, National Geographic is launching “Women of Vision: National Geographic Photographers on Assignment,” an exhibition and companion book that celebrates the new generation of female photographers who have contributed to the magazine over the last ten years. The exhibition, which was curated by National Geographic Senior Photo Editor Elizabeth Krist, opens today at the National Geographic Museum in Washington, DC. It features work by 11 notable photographers: Lynsey Addario, Kitra Cahana, Jodi Cobb, Diane Cook, Carolyn Drake, Lynn Johnson, Beverly Joubert, Erika Larsen, Stephanie Sinclair, Maggie Steber and Amy Toensing. With close to 100 images on display, the show celebrates the unique vision that women bring to the field of photojournalism. Some examples of the varied works exhibited in “Women of Vision” are included here.

The exhibition will be open through March 4, 2014, before traveling to other cities; the book includes forewards by National Geographic Editor-in-Chief Chris Johns and journalist Ann Curry.
