With her newly released work of Doppelgänger II, Cornelia Hediger continues her exploration of the uncanny, constructing complex pictorial narratives into segmented tableau vivants, consisting of up to eighteen individual photographs combined into a single composition. In each artwork the central characters—doppelgängers—are interwoven into a performative psychological struggle, displaying an undercurrent of the sinister, of angst and moral ambiguity. Hediger was selected as one of PDN‘s 30 in 2009. The artist reception for Doppelgänger II is Wednesday, September 7th, from 6–8pm, the exhibit will be on view through October 21st at Klompching Gallery in New York.

I am intrigued by the stark lighting and humanist treatment of the models form.
The images seem to communicate a horrific reality based on introspection and a cold hard admission of the obviously less than ideal state of affairs of the tableau presented in the images. I feel prompted to indulge in an introspective comparison of my own state of being to defend my self image from an all to personal critique.
While I’m not as articulate as my predecessor, Dean, I do think this is a great collection! A bit haunting.
