PDN Photo of the Day

The Year’s Top 10 Photo of the Day Posts

PDN Photo of the Day features work from photographer’s personal series, unpublished works, commissions and assignments, exhibitions, and published books.

Photography featured on our blog is selected by PDN editors. The “Best of PDN Photo of the Day 2015,” however, was selected by you. The above slideshow features one image from each of the 10 most-popular posts from the year. Below are links to each full post.

Slide 1: Women in Their Prime – Challenging assumptions about how women age, veteran commercial photographer Peter Freed began a personal project in 2010 photographing dozens of women ranging in age from 35 to 104. All are photographed without makeup or jewelry.

Slide 2: American Parenthood, Before and After – Dona Schwartz contrasts nervous and excited parents-to-be with the aftermath of parenthood, recording the spaces made by parents and left by grown children.

Slide 3: Deana Lawson’s Intimate Myths – Deana Lawson often uses strangers as subjects in her carefully staged, intimate photos, turning their portraits into psychologically charged family snapshots.

Slide 4: Anton Corbijn: My Kind of Photographs – This year Anton Corbijn celebrated his 60th birthday and almost 40 years in the photography industry. PDN asked him to tell us how he got started, and what’s kept him going.

Slide 5: The Photography World Goes Mile High – Throughout March and April, Denver celebrates their Month of Photography (MOP) with hundreds of gallery shows, talks, workshops and collaborative public events.

Slide 7: Duane Michals exhibit in Pittsburgh – The Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh is paying homage to Pennsylvania native son Duane Michals with a massive retrospective exhibition.

Slide 8: Beautiful Girls: Peter Lindbergh’s Images of Women – Lindbergh’s 296-page hardcover book includes 158 color and duotone plates—including work for Vogue, Interview, Numero and features portraits of models and actresses.

Slide 9: Out at Sea – Last year photographer Gregers Heering and author Kirsten Jacobsen spent 32 days aboard the biggest ship in the world, the Maersk Majestic.

Slide 10: Crime photos by Chicago Tribune photographers – “Crime Then and Now: Through the Lens of the Chicago Tribune” features crime photos taken by Chicago Tribune photographers over the past 80 years.
