Melanie Dunea‘s photographs helped contribute to the large-scale ad campaign “Hunger: An Unwanted Guest,” for the Food Bank For New York City. Some of the famous subjects featured were Susan Sarandon, John Leguizamo, Kevin Bacon, Stanley Tucci and Anthony Bourdain. “As a longtime volunteer and supporter [of The Food Bank] I concocted a plan to photograph the charity’s 30 start supporters around the streets of New York City,” Dunea tells PDN via e-mail. The campaign, which consisted of 26 shoots, was shot over the course of five winter days, in a variety of iconic New York City locations. A very long day of six shoots began with April Bloomfield at the Chelsea Hotel and finished with Mario Batali in Washington Square Park. “It was stressful and exciting, and it made us all feel like we were helping the cause.”
The “Go Orange” campaign was launched in September for Hunger Action Month and is currently displayed on hundreds of subway platforms through October 16, and in Times Square on Reuter/NASDAQ billboards through the end of October. Visit Food Bank For New York City for more information.
