Regarded as the birthplace of western civilization, Rome has wielded a magnetic spell on its inhabitants and visitors for nearly 30 centuries. Originally published in hardcover in 2009, teNeues has published an abridged flexicover edition of Elliott Erwitt’s Rome. In his signature humorous style, Erwitt unveils the unflagging spirit of this metropolis. “Undaunted by history, Erwitt portrays the distinctive mix of ancient glory and casual indifference which is uniquely Roman,” writes the publisher in a statement.
Born in Paris in 1928 to Russian parents, Erwitt spent his childhood in Milan, then emigrated to the US, via France, with his family in 1939. In 1953, Erwitt joined Magnum Photos. He turns 90 in 2018. Erwitt continues to work for a variety of journalistic and commercial outfits.
