Harley Weir’s Intimate “Boundaries”

Harley Weir graduated from Central Saint Martins College in London in 2010, but it wasn’t until four years later that she came to the attention of the fashion industry through her Tumblr page, which launched her career as a fashion photographer. Since then, she has worked for Vogue, i-D and Dazed & Confused, among others, and shot stills and video for brands including Calvin Klein, Proenza Schouler and Gucci. Known for her intimate and visually seductive images, Weir approaches fashion shoots and personal projects in politically charged zones with the same eye for visceral detail and sensual color and texture.

Boundaries,” her first solos show, is on view at Foam Fotografiemuseum in Amsterdam until February 19. While Weir’s photographs pay close attention to the beauty of surfaces, her goal is to evoke emotion, she told an interviewer. “I just want to move someone. It doesn’t really matter what emotion it is really—whether someone’s disgusted, or it reminds them of love or anything like that. Any emotion, I would be very happy. It’s so difficult to move people.”
