Picturing Architecture at the Venice Biennale

This week, the 15th International Architecture Exhibition opens at La Biennale di Venezia, and for the next six months, architects and their fans from around the world will come to see hundreds of exhibitions and pavilions from 37 countries at the Giardini, the Arsenale and in the historic center of Venice. This year, one focus is on architectural photography – a show, “Time Space Existence” at Palazzo Bembo, Palazzo Mora and Palazzo Rossini celebrates current developments in the field and explores the challenges of great architectural photography, balancing description with pleasure and expression. Billed as a ‘collateral event’ to the sprawling Biennale, the show is organized by Global Art Affairs Foundation, a Dutch non-profit that supports contemporary art, architecture and culture, and highlights the diversity of approaches to recording the built environment. Paying attention to a particular moment in time, the images record the quality of light on materials or reveal how new buildings fit into their historic surroundings.
