Woodstock, New York-based photographer Jeffrey Milstein may be best-known for his images of planes from a “ground-up” point-of-view, but his new show, “LA NY,” showcases a mix of aerial photographs of subjects ranging from a Los Angeles suburb to New York City’s Museum of Natural History. “The distance is far enough that the geometry of the urban streetscape, invisible from the ground, emerges into surprising, often elegant patterns, as in the Masonic-inspired layout of the Park La Brea housing development in Los Angeles,” Benrubi Gallery writes in a statement about the exhibition. “Yet [Milstein’s photographs are] close enough that the scenes retain a human feeling.” Newer work includes Milstein’s cruise ships, which he also photographed from above.

Milstein’s work can be seen (in print form) this summer on both coasts. “LA NY” at Kopeikin Galley in Los Angeles opens June 18 and and runs through August 29, and Milstein’s show at Benrubi Gallery in New York City opens today and runs through August 22.
