PDN Photo of the Day

Packing Light

While traveling for editorial, commercial and NGO assignments, Xavier Guardans makes sure to find time to shoot his personal work. Guardans does not need much to make his sun-drenched landscapes—he only uses a Rolleiflex, and 80mm lens and natural light.

Thanks to a great relationship with book publisher Damiani Editore, Guardans is in the midst of turning his personal photographs into a five-volume set. The first volume, Windows, was published in 2014, and the second, Traveling Lights, was recently released.

Traveling Lights includes work from Guardans’s travels in the United States, Egypt, Senegal, Vietnam, Spain, China, Kenya, Belize and Argentina, though these places are not easily identifiable. “The point is to get lost with the images, only at the end of the book do you have a geographical reference,” Guardans told PDN via email.

Guardans will be signing copies of his book in New York City, Sunday, April 19 from 6 – 8 pm at Coming Soon bookstore.
