Documents of the Hip-Hop Revolution: 1977–1990

Thanks to a new exhibit at the Museum of the City of New York, classic hip-hop culture from 1977 through 1990 is alive and well. For the first time ever, the work of three major hip-hop documentarians—Janette Beckman, Joe Conzo and Martha Cooper—will be on display. Opening April 1, “Hip-Hop Revolution” presents more than 80 photographs and incorporates all facets of the genre: DJs, rappers, break dancers, fashion, and icons from Queen Latifah to EPMD.

Hip-Hop Revolution: Photographs by Janette Beckman, Joe Conzo and Martha Cooper,” opens April 1 and runs through September 13, 2015 at the Museum of the City of New York.
