“One: Unique Photographs” at Klompching Gallery in Brooklyn’s DUMBO neighborhood showcases work from six unique artists: Robert Calafiore, Matthew-Robert Hughes, Max Kellenberger, Carole P. Kunstadt, Diane Meyer and Ken Rosenthal.

Of particular interest is the work by artist Diane Meyer  [Slide 2] whose series of embroidered photographs were taken in Berlin along the former path of the Berlin Wall. “In many of the images, the embroidered sections of the photograph represent the exact scale and location of the former Wall offering a pixelated view of what lies behind,” Meyer said in a statement about the work. “In this way, the embroidery becomes a trace in the landscape of something that no longer exists, but is a weight on history and memory.” The embroidery was created to imitate pixelation in digital images, combining old and new photographic practices.

Another interesting image is “Torre Di Vetro” by Robert Calafiore [Slide 4]. Calafiore created his work by using a pinhole camera, and the c-type photographic paper is the negative transforming ordinary glass objects into sculptural images, reminiscent of Rorschach inkblot tests.

“One: Unique Photographs” runs through February 14, 2015 at Klompching Gallery in New York City.
