Architecture in Contemporary Photography

Yes, Shooting Space: Architecture in Contemporary Photography is a comprehensive, cleanly designed, beautiful photography book of built landscapes and structures. But what makes the book unique is its organization, and the range of contributing artists. Divided into five chapters, Shooting Space includes photographer and architect collaborations, outdoor landscapes (slide 5), graphic compositions (slide 1) and conceptualized environments (slide 3). The 240-page book features 200 color photos, as well as an index of the artists and their bios in the back of the book. Some of the featured artists include Hélène Binet, Iwan Baan, Michael Wolf, Olivo Barbieri, Sze Tsung Leong, Yves Marchand & Romaine Meffre, Bas Princen, Geert Goiris, Filip Dujardin, José Dávila and Nadva Kander.

Shooting Space is a photography anthology presenting a selection of artists’ responses to architecture through the medium of photography,” writes Elias Redstone, founder of London Architecture Diary, in the book’s introduction. “The book showcases photography that scrutinizes and critiques the built environment, with architecture acting as a protagonist with which to explore wider social and cultural themes. Architecture is in and of itself a lens through which to see the world. “
