Justine Kurland has spent years on the road photographing America’s diverse communities and landscapes. Her most recent series, “Sincere Auto Care,” features an American classic—the automobile. Kurland documented engine details [slide 2], mechanics [slide 1], details [slide 3], as a mode of transportation [slide 6] and as a treasure [slide 4]. Her gallerist, Michell-Innes & Nash, says Kurland “returns to a purely documentary style in the tradition of Walker Evans,” in her show “Sincere Auto Care,” which opens tonight. “Cars, the culture of the mechanic, and the open road are Kurland’s subjects, drawing on her 12 years of experience with life on the road.”
Showing for the first time, “Sincere Auto Care,” opens Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Michell-Innes & Nash gallery in New York City with a reception from 6-8pm.
