Perhaps one of the most famous and controversial artists to emerge from the late 1970s and 1980s, Robert Mapplethorpe died in 1989 at the age of forty-three. This exhibition will present 25 photographs taken between 1978 and 1989, focusing on two major subjects of his oeuvre, human and botanical forms. In these photographs, which exemplify classical ideals of form and proportion, Mapplethorpe used light and shadow, form and formlessness, symmetry and asymmetry to capture perfection and beauty. – Courtesy Weinstein Gallery
