PDN Photo of the Day

Tokyo Adorned

To document Tokyo’s street fashion community, New York City-based photographer Thomas C. Card spent the spring of 2012 in the city photographing various individuals and their vibrant personal styles. Japanese fashion tribes originated in the early 1990s, when young people, particularly young women, began rebelling against traditional Japanese culture. Marked by playfulness and inventiveness, these styles have impacted fashion trends around the world. As opposed to most street fashion photography, which typically takes place on the busy streets of Tokyo, Card brings his subjects into the more focused, intimate environment of the studio. – Courtesy Sacks & Co.

Card’s images were collected in a new book, Tokyo Adorned, released today by Booth-Clibborn Editions and distributed in the U.S. through Abrams Books. Join Card at Kinokuniya Bookstore in New York City tonight from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM for a special presentation and signing. The book’s release marks the third anniversary of the tsunami that hit Japan in 2011. A portion of the book’s proceeds will be donated to the food bank Second Harvest Japan.
