MLK: Gone But Not Forgotten

New Orleans-based photographer William K. Greiner‘s series “GBNF (Gone But Not Forgotten)” looks at how imagery of figures such as Martin Luther King, John F. Kennedy and Malcolm X have lived on and become ubiquitous years after their deaths. He photographed these memorial objects wherever he found them. On the holiday commemorating Martin Luther King’s birthday, we revisited Greiner’s series, which explores sometimes startling, sometimes humorous juxtapositions. “Insignificant objects in the frame take on larger symbolic meaning,” writes Greiner. “We as viewers are left to consider images frozen in time, altered not by their aging but our own.”
