Professional photographer Ed Wheeler has been dressing up as Santa and making Christmas cards for his clients for 20 years. Three years ago he decided to dress up and place Santa into “masterpieces of history.” This series, currently making it’s rounds on the Internet on sites like The Huffington Post, is now known as “Santa Classics.” Wheeler says “after I did one, I couldn’t stop.” He’s created almost 40 “Santa interventions” as he calls them and has plans for many more. Wheeler begins his process by researching hundreds of paintings  until one catches his eye. Santa replaces a main or single figure in a painting or is added to a group composition. Wheeler says his intent is to “pay  homage to the original paintings while offering art lovers an additional reason to smile.”
