PDN Photo of the Day

New York, New York

Thomas Hoepker is a longtime resident of New York City as well as a former president of Magnum Photos. His photographs of New York capture the vibrancy of the city and its people; recently 100 hundred of those color images were compiled into a new book, Thomas Hoepker: New York (teNeues), released earlier this month. Images in New York cover The Big Apple from the early 1960s through 9/11 and include 2012’s Hurricane Sandy. One of the Hoepker’s most controversial images was taken on September 11, 2001, and shows a group of people casually sitting on the bank of the East River in the Brooklyn, New York, neighborhood of  Williamsburg, while smoke rises from the World Trade Center in the background. Hoepker’s work is also currently display at the Leica Gallery in Frankfurt through the end of August.
