False Landscapes

NYC-based photographer Ralph Smith‘s series “False Landscapes” was shot in camera and then, admittedly, heavily manipulated to create pastel, dreamlike and sometimes infrared environments. “I’m going for something between fairy tale landscape and sci-fi alien wilderness,” Smith says. With over 5 years as a first assistant and retoucher for a still-life photographer, Smith only recently broke out on his own. Photo editors reading this post may know Smith from a recent promo card featuring an asian spikey melon photographed on white. Other unusual food items  include an 8-layered sandwich, the sea-creature like broccoflower, and black (squid-ink) linguine.
