Jordan Baumgarten‘s project “Average Americans of the Right Type” is an investigation of class and masculinity within the subculture of American Hunters. The project was made over the course of a year in a variety of places: New England, Upstate New York, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. During this time, Jordan learned how to hunt, allowing him to photograph this world as a participant, giving him an insider’s perspective into this community of men.
Baumgarten is a winner in the Hearst 8×10 Biennial. His work, along with the other Hearst Biennial winners will be on on display at the Hearst tower in New York City April 2nd through August 31st.
