In Guy Tillim’s “Avenue Patrice Lumumba” the South African photographer examines modern African society against a backdrop of colonial and post-colonial architecture. Traveling through numerous African countries, including Mozambique, Angola and The Democratic Republic of Congo, Tillim captures a society in transition, stuck between modern aspirations and the political suppression and conflicting ideologies of the past. Organized by the Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago with funding provided by the Lanna Foundation, the exhibition will run through August at the Blue Sky Gallery, Oregon’s Center for the Photographic Arts.
