  1. what a great photo. the best of science is dedicated to doing no harm, first and foremost. but much of what we call ‘science’ is dedicated to finding original, more effective ways to harm each other, and that includes animals. animal testing is a lucrative industry. the more animals that are experimented on, the more money the companies and universities generally make. this is a terrific photo that shows what human beings do regularly with only the vaguest hope it might in some way someday benefit humans. just trust us. the research is not supportive of animal testing benefiting humans either. whatever we learn on animals must be tested on humans, and the only thing we have definitively learned thru testing is that there is no correlation between how animals react to a drug and how humans do. but the tests continue, becuz it is a lucrative industry.

  2. Fascinating image, but I agree with the other reader’s comment about animal testing. I definitely support the humane treatment of animals, and find much of the studies done on them to be quite reprehensible. All that being said, I do have a tendency to personify animals and this little mouse looks like he is going to bust out some kung-fu-fighting moves.

  3. “the only thing we have definitively learned thru testing is that there is no correlation between how animals react to a drug and how humans do.”

A level of ignorance that is truly astounding.
