Ziv Koren gained exclusive access to the Israeli elite police unit, Yamam. This is the first time that the unit has been photographed. The Yamam is capable of both hostage-rescue operations and offensive takeover raids against targets in civilian areas. It also performs SWAT duties and undercover police work. Most of its activity is classified, and Yamam operations are often credited to other units.

Koren’s images were included in the PDN Photo Annual 2010 online gallery.

  1. These are amazing photographs… so cinematic that I feel like I’m in the action, as opposed to merely observing an image of it.

  2. These pictures are pretty good, but obviously training situation and not real action.
In real action these animals only allow photos to be published where they can be seen being attacked or giving a helping hand

  3. nobody shot peace activists..yellow press needs to get their shit straight.

Amazing photo work.. Too bad exif is not available.. but i’m a geek for that type of a thing :D

  4. It’s so sad that no one can even mention Israel without it becoming a matter of debate. The first comment is an insult, probably by someone who does not know what he is talking about and just repeats whatever he watches on TV without questioning it.

@greystone, I would not refer to them as “peace activists”, that term does not really suit their actions. More like “rebel protesters”. If you wish to see the events that actually occurred on the Marmara that evening, I suggest you look at the IDF’s footage and see how the soldiers where received aboard the last ship (the first 5 ships had no issues), they recorded everything from drones and helicopter cameras. There was no shooting until one of the “activists” grabbed hold of a soldier’s handgun and fired shots. At that moment, what was a violent protest turned into a bloody and regrettable. Also, this whole “mission” of bringing supplies and aid to gaza, after it was unloaded from the ships and onto trucks, Gaza’s government rejected all of it and sent it back, all of it! They did not need anything, it is just a way to raise chaos and give the world media a field day depicting the “poor Hetzbollah” as the underdog.

I hope anyone who reads my comment can realize that this is in no way a provocation or a disrespectful comment, and I expect anyone that follows to abide by the rules of courtesy.

  5. @ diego: er…IDF footage? uh-huh. sure. as soon as the Israelis release the whole footage from start to finish and release the memory cards and footage of every camera used by the peace activists. and btw, it’s Hezbollah not Hetzbollah…and the Gaza elected government is Hamas.

you watched tv and accepted the IDF footage as gospel? i didn’t.

@max: i asked a question. you haven’t answered it. keep honing your tool in your basement, pal.

  6. all this training to kill people witch phosphorus bombs? how the people of Israel can forget the Nazi’s strike? Its possible?

    NAZI = ISRAEL = Adolf Hitler = 666

  7. The unit which took over the flottila is a different one called “Shayetet 13”
they are the Israeli “Navy seals”, not the Yamam…
For you folks calling terrorists peace activists and Israel Nazis:
fuck you! We know a racist when we smell one and if you have problems with
our existance you can kiss our nuclear bomb’s arse. The people of Israel are
tired of bowing and explaining to hypocritical folks like you!

  8. The more Israel is mistreated the more it will be strong.
For 6000 years Israel has faught for its survival succesfully….it will fight and succeed for more 6000 or 60000 years.
    Israel Chai !!!

  9. It is a well known fact that terrorist organizations (Arabs) have a tendency to use civilians (willingly or not) as bait and target for PR.
It is the Arab way of fighting and this is what the “peace activists” are!!!
“Peace activists” don’t try to slaughter people with knifes and mob them!
This is the way of the Muslim activist!
They are not peace activists; they are jihadists- some wrote wills before sailing.

  10. In the NY Times today , there’s a bunch of photographs of the soldiers being beaten up. Some seem to be wearing thongs. Is that standard issue in the IDF? Or are these jockstraps? Thanks.

  11. I was just kidding about the thongs. I’m really a crossdresser myself, so that’s why I thought it would be funny to say that. Also, I really love Israel, I just pretend not to because I can only use 0.0001% of my brain and it’s a challenge for me to not hate things.

  12. I adore Israel….and I must meet these soldiers who wear thongs. Yummy!!! Oy Vey…I bet they come in colours too! Victoria Secret in Tel Aviv must be swamped with tranny IDF’ers.

  13. Hi there, – came upon your current website inadvertently when wandering across the web this evening, and pleased that i did! I do like the style and design and different shades, but I need to mention that I’m having difficulties when it loads. I’m using WannaBe 2 web browser for mac, and the top panel wouldn’t align fully. i’m pretty sure I have used the exact same design on a customer’s online site, but the menu seems all straight on mine. I think the fault is at this end & maybe it’s the perfect time to change!

  14. For all the “politcally correct” guys” ( greystone, overhax & co.):
POLITICALLY CORRECT ids a doctrine – created by an illogical and brain washed minority, and propagated by the western official mass media – stating that it is totally possibile to grab a piece of shit by its clean end .
